Lawrence Hart is the founding priest of St. Auggie’s. Father Larry is a priest, pastoral counselor, spiritual director, author, and former Dominican Friar (The Anglican Order of Preachers). He is married to Brenda Buller. Brenda and Larry were both born and grew up in Bakersfield. They have two grown and married children and four grandchildren. They share their condo with Jack – a Queensland/Catahoula mix. Family, for Father Larry, is a way to God.
Father Larry holds graduate degrees in the areas of Counseling Psychology, Religion, Theology, and Pastoral Care. He has worked as a psychotherapist, a counselor for alcohol and drug abuse and domestic violence, a schoolteacher, including teaching in a school for juvenile offenders, hospital chaplain, janitor, cotton picker, peach picker, and grape packer. He regards all these experiences as significant in shaping his spiritual life; however, parish ministry has always been his great passion. He believes God has called him to gather with a community of men and women working together, serving together, to do something beautiful for God and thereby to experience the mystery of spiritual transformation.
